Amwins has announced that Nick Abraham (pictured above) will take over as CEO of its London-based specialist distribution unit, effective January 1, 2025.

Ibrahim, who joined Amwins in November 2021, has held a leadership role in the brokerage division. He brings extensive experience from his 17-year tenure at Markel, where he held multiple leadership positions.

Scott Purviance, CEO of Amwins Group, said Abraham has made a significant contribution to the brokerage division over the past three years.

“His experience in transportation, coupled with his knowledge of wholesale brokerage, makes him the ideal choice to lead the continued expansion of our London operations,” said Purviance.

Nathan Mathis, who has held leadership roles in London for the past six years, including three years as CEO, will return to the firm’s leadership team in Charlotte, USA. He will focus on key growth initiatives going forward.

Purviance commented that Mathis’ leadership helped establish Amwin Global Risks as Lloyd’s leading independent broker, representing more than $3 billion in premiums placed.

In addition to Ibrahim’s new role, Mark Cody, currently Managing Director of Amwin Global Risks, will be promoted to President.

Cody, who has been with Amwines for 25 years, will work closely with Abraham, focusing on recruitment and relations with carriers and unions. James Drinkwater will remain CEO of Amwines Global Risks.

In other developments, Mr. Stephen DeCarlo, CEO of Amwin, will be honored as the 2024 Insurance Leader of the Year by the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University.

The award will be presented at the 29th Annual Insurance Leader of the Year Awards Dinner on February 26, 2025, at the New York Marriott Marquis.

DeCarlo, who previously served as CEO of Amwins for 17 years, oversaw the company’s expansion through the integration of several specialty wholesalers. Proceeds from the event will benefit students and programs at Greenberg College, part of the Peter J. Tobin School of Business at St. John’s University.
