Employers and insurers face significant challenges in managing driver risk amid labor shortages, evolving regulatory requirements, and risky driving behaviors. To address this critical need for data-driven insights, SambaSafety has released its inaugural edition Driver Risk Report 2024: Key trends shaping car mobility.

The report provides an analysis of developments affecting the automotive sector. It leverages an extensive repository of telematics, vehicle records (MVR) and compliance, safety and accountability (CSA) data.

“Our extensive network uncovers driving insights from more than 3,000 integrated data sources, providing unparalleled insight into driving behaviors,” said Rich Lacey, chief product officer at SambaSafety. “As we launch the Samba Safety Risk Index for our monitoring customers this month, they will have access to a comprehensive risk score, providing a comprehensive view of driver and fleet risk profiles. This feature will simplify how companies detect common risks identified in the 2024 Driver Risk Report And limit it.

Key findings in the report include:

  • In 2022, the average violation rate for drivers in the United States and Canada was 27%.
  • In the Pacific Southwest and Midwest regions of the United States, the top three violations in 2021 and 2022 were all speed-related.
  • Drivers between the ages of 26 and 35 had the highest violation rate in 2022, at 33.9%.

The report examines how these trends impact driver risk management, including hiring and retention practices, compliance with changing laws and regulations, insurance rates and profitability.
