Emerald Bay Risk Solutions has announced the acquisition of Mensail Insurance, a move the company says is aimed at strengthening its ability to offer customized insurance solutions in recognized national markets. Financial terms of the private deal were not disclosed.

Mainsail Insurance provides property and casualty (P&C) insurance, offering 17 different lines of coverage, including auto, property, and commercial insurance.

The acquisition of Mainsail will further enhance Emerald Bay Risk Solutions’ collaborative, technology-enabled underwriting approach, said Dave Ingrey, CEO and co-founder of Emerald Bay.

Following the acquisition, Mainsail will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Emerald Bay Specialty Insurance Company, which has an A- rating from AM Best as a surplus lines company.

Launched in March with the support of Bain Capital Insurance, Emerald Bay Risk Solutions is focused on delivering tailored insurance solutions, consistent underwriting results, and fostering long-term partnerships with a select group of high-performing managing general agents (MGAs) and reinsurance partners.

Emerald Bay, co-founded by industry veterans Dave Ingrey and Miles Alkins, has been awarded an A- (Excellent) financial strength rating from AM Best.

Earlier this month, the company also formed a partnership with MGA Curotech Specialty to launch an Excess and Available (E&S) commercial real estate program.

Curotech operates a technology platform with an in-house software engineering team, with a focus on technology and data analytics. This complements Emerald Bay’s collaborative, technology-enabled underwriting approach, which aims to make rapid decisions based on real-time data.

Earlier this year, the company also partnered with MGA Lightspeed Specialty Insurance Solutions to create a California homeowners and landlord insurance facility. The facility provides comprehensive coverage for owner-occupied and renter-occupied dwellings in low-fire risk areas across the state.
