Independent insurance broker Heffernan Insurance Brokers has expanded its services to include aviation insurance expertise by acquiring Costello Insurance Associates for an undisclosed sum.

Costello’s Tempe, Arizona office is now a Heffernan Aviation Specialty Office, operating under the group’s Phoenix branch office. Founded in 1991 by veteran pilot and flight instructor Pat Costello, the agency serves clients nationwide.

The acquired company specializes in insurance coverage for a variety of aircraft types, including jets, gliders and drones, and provides services to operations such as flying clubs, flight schools and airports. Pat Costello, along with five employees, will serve new and existing customers while generating cross-selling opportunities with Heffernan’s existing aviation customers.

“Costello Insurance Associates joined Heffernan Insurance Brokers based on our understanding that we can complement each other,” the founder noted. “All indications are that this will be the case, and that clients will benefit.”
