Hiscox welcomes a new Senior Vice President of Underwriting Management

Global specialist insurance company Hiscox has announced the appointment of Paul Spielman (pictured) to the position of Senior Vice President of Underwriting Management.
Steve Primas, chief underwriting officer at Hiscox USA, spoke about Spielman’s appointment.
“We are thrilled to welcome him to our team at Hiscox USA, as we continue to build best-in-class products that support the unique businesses we serve,” Primas said.
He added: “Paul has a proven track record of driving profitable growth, enhancing customer satisfaction, building high-performing teams, and getting his hands dirty.”
Who is Paul Spelman?
Spielman began his career at Prudential Capital Group as a senior analyst in 2001. He then became an associate at Boston Capital before becoming a principal at STAG Capital Partners. Subsequently, he spent more than four years at Bain & Company as a case team leader.
Prior to joining Hiscox, Spielman spent 11 years at Liberty Mutual Insurance in various positions such as Director of Country Operations, Senior Director of Country Operations, Vice President – Small Commercial Country Management, Vice President – Small Commercial Underwriting, and Executive Underwriting Officer – Global Risk Solutions.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Boston College and an MBA in strategic management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
In his new role, Spielman will lead underwriting strategy for Hiscox USA’s Business Owners Policy (BOP), General Liability (GL) and Internet/Technology, Entertainment and Crime products. He will report to Primas and will be based in Massachusetts.
Hiscox USA is a provider of specialized risk solutions that include errors and omissions, general liability, cybersecurity and data security, media liability, administrative liability, crime, entertainment, and terrorism insurance.
It recently completed the first part of a share buyback initiative, conducted in partnership with investment bank Peel Hunt.
