Liberty Mutual Reinsurance (LM Re) has appointed Manja Coleman (pictured above) as its new chief operating officer, succeeding Kirk Maddern, who had been holding the role on an interim basis.
Maddern will continue to work alongside Coleman until his retirement at the end of the year, ensuring a smooth transition.
Coleman has over 15 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance sectors, with a focus on operational efficiency and business transformation. Most recently, she served as Director and Head of IT Transformation at Generali Germany, where she oversaw strategic IT modernization initiatives.

Coleman’s new role is seen as a key part of LM Re’s broader strategy to strengthen its global operational capabilities and continue to deliver customer-focused reinsurance solutions. Her extensive background includes leadership roles at Allianz Technology, Allianz SE and Munich Re, where she led business transformation projects and strategic IT initiatives.
These leadership changes come on the heels of other major developments within Liberty Mutual. In July, the company appointed Julie Haas as executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective January 1, 2025.
In the same month, LM Re appointed Mark de la Mare as its new head of operations for Australia and New Zealand, effective in October.
De la Mare will lead the firm’s underwriting team in Sydney, reporting to James Green, Head of Real Estate in London, and John McCabe, Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific.
In his new role, De La Mare will be responsible for leading LM Re’s strategy in Australia and New Zealand, a region that is critical to the company’s growth plans in the Asia Pacific region. LM Re said De La Mare will play a key role in strengthening its underwriting capabilities and supporting clients across the region.
Liberty Mutual Holding Co. has been rated A (Excellent) by AM Best for financial strength and continues to position its reinsurance division for growth, with new leadership appointments integral to driving the company’s strategic initiatives.
