Markel has announced the appointment of Jamie Carsey (pictured above) to the position of Chief Claims Officer, overseeing the US and Bermuda claims operations within the company’s specialty division.

Carsey joined Markel in 2017 and has held various positions, most recently as Senior Managing Director of Legal Claims and Head of Litigation. Prior to joining Markel, she was a partner at a Texas-based insurance firm, where she managed large litigation teams handling complex cases nationwide.

She is a member of Markel’s Global Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee and Talent Advisory Board and serves on the Houston Board of Directors for the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF). Carsi holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.

“Jamie Carsey has extensive experience, knowledge and leadership that will be instrumental in continuing to enhance our claims operations along with enhancing our risk, compliance, technology and data management efforts,” said Alex Martin, President of Markel Specialty.

He expressed confidence that her work in this role will enhance Markel’s reputation for outstanding claims service.

“In partnership with our dedicated leadership team, Jamie will continue to evolve our claims organization to better serve our partners and clients,” Martin said. “I look forward to further impacting Markel in this new role.”

In other recent developments, Markel announced the promotion of David Ross to senior director of real estate and marine for Markel Specialty’s Southeast Wholesale region. This has led to Ross taking responsibility for the South East Wholesale real estate and marine teams, as well as providing solutions and services to trade partners in the region.
