McGriff Insurance Services recently announced the appointment of veteran attorney and transportation risk management expert Jeffrey “Jeff” Simmons as its new vice president of sales in the transportation division. The appointment comes as part of the company’s drive to enhance support for its clients.

Prior to joining McGriff, Simmons served as Chief Legal Officer at Global Trans and Senior Vice President of Legal and Risk at Worldwide Express.

During his tenure at GlobalTranz as Chief Legal Officer, Simmons built and expanded the freight brokerage firm’s legal and risk management departments from start to finish, supporting the company’s rapid organic growth. He is also the person behind GlobalTranz’s aggressive acquisition strategy.

Building on his proven track record, Simmons has played a critical role in five GlobalTranz acquisitions since 2017, including its merger with Worldwide Express in 2021. In addition to M&A due diligence, Simmons has helped integrate people, services, technology, intellectual property, and insurance and helped manage the governance and compliance functions of the broker’s subsidiaries.

Simmons also previously served as president of the Transportation Lawyers Association. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and his juris doctorate from the University of Arizona.

As Vice President of Sales for McGriff’s Transportation practice, Simmons brings more than 30 years of transportation experience, representing motor, rail, ocean, air and brokerage companies in contract negotiations and before courts and regulatory agencies.

Last year, McGriff also announced the appointment of Jamie Conroy as vice president and marketing account executive for its Birmingham, Alabama-based energy practice.

Meanwhile, McGriff earlier this year promoted Mike Breedlove to the new position of national sales and growth leader as part of its strategy to enhance its sales and marketing strategies.
