Independent reinsurance specialist Miller has expanded its reinsurance practice with the appointment of Stephen Rance (pictured above) as head of reinsurance strategy and innovation and Charlotte Lowe as account executive. The new appointments are part of Miller’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its market presence across key sectors.

Rance, who joins from Price Forbes Re, has more than 35 years of experience in global financial services, including six years as Managing Partner at Gallagher Re, where he led the global mortgage risk reinsurance practice.

His experience includes credit risk services such as portfolio structuring, underwriting and regulatory capital relief. Rance has worked with a wide range of clients, including banks, lenders, homebuilders and governments throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

In 2012, Rance developed the UK’s first government-backed mortgage insurance scheme, NewBuy, which covered over 80% of UK mortgage lenders and over 100 housebuilders. It later introduced Deposit Unlock, another nationwide mortgage insurance scheme covering over 90 UK housebuilders.

In his new role, Rance will report to Shawn Senia, Miller’s Head of Reinsurance and Capital. He will work with the global team to shape the strategy for Miller’s growing reinsurance practice and support its expansion efforts.

Lowe, who also joins from Price Forbes Re, brings valuable experience working with homebuilders and affiliates. She previously held positions at Gallagher Re, and her experience enhances Miller’s capabilities in the reinsurance sector.

These appointments follow Miller’s recent appointment of Andrew Gordon to the marine insurance team earlier this month. Gordon, who has over 40 years’ experience in marine insurance, was previously a managing director at Seascope Insurance Services.

His joining is expected to enhance Miller’s capabilities in the marine sector, a key focus area for the company.

Rance’s appointment also represents the latest in a series of senior appointments at Miller in London, Bermuda and the Asia Pacific region. The firm has been steadily building its reinsurance operations, including expanding its Asia Pacific reinsurance team.

Rance and Lowe will help drive the company’s reinsurance growth strategy, said Shawn Senia, president of reinsurance and capital at Miller.

“In his new role, Stephen will lead this growth, where his deep market expertise and impressive track record of innovation will prove invaluable,” Senyah added. “With the addition of experienced employees like these, we will continue to grow our offering at a rapid pace, becoming the trusted, dedicated advisor our clients are looking for over the long term.”
