MS Amlin, a Lloyd’s reinsurer/reinsurer, has announced a new paid carer’s leave policy for its employees.

The leave policy will allow employees to take a week off to provide care for their dependents, as it aims to support those who juggle the multiple responsibilities of caring for loved ones while performing work duties. It is also part of MS Amlin’s expanded suite of life stage benefits for employers.

Gemma Lines, People Director at MS Amlin, said: “As we age and family structures change, more of us will find ourselves responsible for the care of dependents. Juggling caring duties with full or part-time work can be stressful, and we believe it shouldn’t “For people to feel forced to choose between their career and caring responsibilities.”

“By offering paid leave to carers, we aim to relieve some of the pressure on working carers, and foster an inclusive work environment that supports people at all stages of life,” Lines added.

The insurer’s policy states that employees will be given up to five days of paid leave per year to care for a spouse, civil partner, child, parent or other family member or neighbour.

It will be provided to employees who provide or arrange care for a person with a physical or mental illness or injury, registered disability, or aged care needs. The benefit can be taken either flexibly as individual days, or consecutive full or half days.

The Paid Caregiver Leave Policy is part of other life stage policies that MS Amlin provides to its employees. The insurer was one of the first few at Lloyd’s to offer six months of fully paid parental leave.

It also provides paid fertility leave, pregnancy loss support, and diagnosis of menopause and perimenopause. Other benefits include company pension contributions of up to 13%, life insurance worth 10 times an employee’s salary, private medical care, health screening, and an employee assistance program.
